Happy New Year! I hope that you had a Merry Christmas and Happy Hannukah. Spending time with family and close friends is always fun and relaxing; it reminds us of what is truly important.
The Nevada Legislature 2017 Session begins on Monday, February 6, 2017.
Did you know that Nevada Legislators officially take office the day after the November General Election, November 9, 2016?
However, there is a ceremonial swearing in, that takes place on the first day of the Legislative session (Feb.6) .
Governor Sandoval will be outlining his goals for our state in the Nevada State of the State Address on January 17th. Be sure to tune in and listen.
I have the opportunity as a Legislator to introduce Bills that are important to all of us. I have highlighted a few of my Bill Draft Requests below.
BDR# 587- Election integrity- Voter ID- Voters must show a photo identification card to vote in elections.
BDR# 584- Children- Strengthen the law against pedophiles by extending the statute of limitations for Child Victims of Sexual Abuse.
BDR# 652- Veterans- A joint Bill brought with U.S. Congressman Mark Amodei for our Veterans. A declaration requesting the City of Reno maintain the Grand Army of the Revolution Veteran’s cemetery which has fallen into disrepair in recent years.
When these Bills are up for a committee hearing, I will need your support for the Bills to pass the Committee vote. You can help by showing up on the day & time that the Bill will be heard and testifying in front of the Committee that is hearing the Bill. Even if you do not feel comfortable speaking, just showing up at the committee hearing in support of the Bill makes a strong statement.
My door is always open to you.
My address at the Legislative Building is: 401 S. Carson Street, Carson City, NV 89701. My office is room # 3124. My office phone number is (775) 684-8848.
I am excited to serve you and our great state in the Legislature. Thank you for all of your help and support.
