CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Northern Nevada Assemblyman Randy Kirner says he won’t seek re-election in 2016.
The Reno Republican wrote on his campaign website Monday that he’s done what he needs to do and now it’s time to step aside. He said he planned to serve out the remainder of his term, which ends next November.
Kirner was first elected in 2010 and served for three regular legislative sessions. He won his most recent election against fellow Republican Lisa Krasner by 11 votes.
Kirner said he’s proud of a comprehensive economic development bill he sponsored in 2011, and of a “Read by Three” bill passed in 2015 that requires students know how to read before advancing to 4th grade.
Lisa Krasner and fellow Republican Jason Guinasso have announced bids for Kirner’s seat.
