– RGJ letter to Editor: No impact study done on pot business location- June 24, 2015-

I am writing in response to “Pot dispensary will not ruin your neighborhood” [Letters, June 17].
Clearly the author of that letter does not understand the concerns of the community residing in the area of Mt. Rose Highway and Thomas Creek Road.
We are opposed to a marijuana dispensary in that specific location. The proposed location is less than 1 mile from Galena High School and Hunsberger Elementary School.
No community impact study was done to inform parents and homeowners that live in the neighborhood of the proposed facility. We were not given any notice of the marijuana dispensary being considered for this location before the license was granted.
More than 50 parents voiced their concerns at the Washoe County Commission meeting on May 19.
Then at a second meeting at Galena High School on June 10, more than 300 people attended to voice their opposition.
Our argument is not with legal medical marijuana for patients who need it. Our disagreement is with the proposed location of a marijuana dispensary being placed less than 1 mile from our children’s K-12 public schools. It does not belong in this location.
