Assembly candidate Lisa Krasner said Wednesday that she would most likely seek a recount after losing the District 26 race to incumbent Randy Kirner, R-Reno, by just 11 votes.

Krasner said she has been inundated with phone calls and emails today, urging her to seek a recount.

Kransner is concerned that a late-night “glitch,” with the main server, which delayed the reporting of the results of 10,000 absentee ballots in Washoe County, may contain miscounted or missing votes.

“I have received 40 to 50 phone calls and emails urging me to ask for a recount,” said Krasner, a first-time Assembly candidate and a Republican. “People keep mentioning the glitch in the system in the reporting of those 10,000 absentee ballots.”

“Shouldn’t we all be concerned about that?” Krasner said.

Kranser said she had worked too hard on the campaign to let this go without a fight. Yet she said she will announce her final decision after talking with Washoe Registrar Luanne Cutler later today.

She was considered the underdog after finishing second to Kirner in the GOP Assembly 26 primary in June.

“The reason I received so many votes is because I went door-to-door, talking to people,” Krasner said. “I went to every community event I could. I went to all of the neighborhood advisory board meetings I could find. Every meeting or local event you could go to, I went to.”

Kirner, who has campaigned on a platform of fixing issues in Nevada’s Public Employee Retirement System, could not be immediately reached for comment Wednesday.

Krasner, a seven-year member of Reno’s Parks and Recreation Commission, entered the race as a critic of Kirner’s role in pushing Assembly Bill 46 during the 2013 Legislature. The bill would have increased sales tax and property taxes.

With Kirner and Assembly Minority Leader Pat Hickey, R-Reno, doing some backroom maneuvering, the bill was shifted from the Legislature to the Washoe County Commission, where it died.

Krasner felt the bill should have been dealt with at the Legislature, not passed on to the County Commission.
