Reno Gazette Journal- Krasner speaks about education, experience-

 September 21, 2014–

I’m Lisa Krasner, candidate for State Assembly District 26. I am running because I care about our community and I care about the people who live here. I believe we need a representative who listens to us and represents the voice of the people.

My father immigrated to the United States as a young man. He taught himself how to read, write and speak English and worked hard to provide for his family. From him, I learned that I could accomplish anything through hard work.

My educational background includes a bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Los Angeles and a juris doctorate degree from University of Laverne College of Law.

I believe it is important to be involved in our community.

I’m a part-time college professor at Truckee Meadows Community College and the University of Phoenix, where I’ve taught courses on the U.S. Constitution, Nevada Constitution and political science for 5½ years.

I am also a commissioner on the State of Nevada Commission on Aging, appointed by Gov. Brian Sandoval, and I am working on legislation that will help senior citizens with the issues that are important to them.

Prior to this, I served as a commissioner for the city of Reno’s Recreation and Parks Commission for seven years, where I advocated for a family-friendly environment in Reno.

I am an active participant in my children’s public schools, where I have volunteered in the classroom for many years, teaching Junior Achievement. I also have served on the Hunsberger Elementary PTA Board of Directors.

As your Assemblywoman, I promise you:

• I will not raise taxes on hardworking Nevadans. I am a fiscal conservative and have signed the taxpayer protection pledge, my promise to you that I will not raise your taxes but will work for more efficient spending of our taxpayer dollars. I oppose the margins tax as it is a job-killing tax and would be detrimental to businesses here in Nevada.

• I will respect and uphold the U.S. and Nevada constitutions. Our Founding Fathers wrote the Constitution for the people. It has served us well for more than 200 years in guiding us to become the greatest country in the world.

• I will work to create a brighter future for our children by improving education and creating jobs here in Nevada.

I believe we need to improve our public school education for our children; they are the future of this state and country. We can start by more efficient spending of our education budget, local parental control, school choice, charter schools and vouchers. I oppose Common Core.

To create jobs, I would encourage diversifying our economy here in Nevada and increased partnerships with the University of Nevada, Reno to benefit our economy and the university.

My education, experience and community involvement make me the most qualified candidate for Assembly District 26.

I care about you, and I would appreciate your vote on Nov. 4.
