Orrin misleading in AD 26 race columnONE VIEW- LISA KRASNER

It is no surprise that certain pro-tax, big-government politicians and pundits are attacking me in my primary campaign for Assembly District 26. I did not file for office thinking that I would avoid scrutiny.

That said, Orrin Johnson’s column attacking me in the Sunday, May 15 editionof the Reno Gazette-Journal alsodeserves scrutiny.

You may know Johnson worked for the public defender’s office representing rapists, killers and other felons. He’s someone whom you would think would not be easily offended. But apparently, Johnson was offended that I was not as specific as he would like when I discussed my support of our veterans in a recent mail piece. I’m proud to support our veterans and I applaud groups like the Veterans Guest House, the Nevada Military Support Alliance and all our federal and state agencies that provide assistance to our veterans.

The fact is, my family and I do support our veterans – donating time and money to several veterans’ causes and providing supplies like clothing, toiletries, and food to our vets in need. However, I also don’t believe voters need to see every charitable act I do for others on political mail. My family supported our nation’s veterans long before I sought political office.

It’s interesting that Johnson fails to disclose that he is listed as a supporter on fundraising invitations for my opponent, and isn’t insulted by my opponent’s empty mail piece “puffery,” which contains no substance and only the “empty sloganeering” that seems to keep him up at night. (Johnson himself is a failed Assembly candidate who once circulated similar mail pieces).

When I point out that my opponent, Jason Guinasso, doesn’t live in the district, his defender Orrin cries “filthy lie”! While the judge did rule that he is eligible to run for AD 26 because his wife has a second residence in the district, to most people, we “live” where we go home to each night and sleep and wake up in the morning. Jason Guinasso does NOT go home to Assembly District 26 at night or wake up there in the morning.

My family and I do live in the district. It is where we go home at night and where we wake up in the morning, where our kids go to school, etc.

Finally, the voters know that my opponent has centered his campaign around his strong support of the Commerce Tax (a gross receipts tax) on our businesses. And I oppose the Commerce Tax; too many onerous taxes and regulations harm businesses.

I trust the voters in Assembly District 26 will contrast my opponent and me, and then cast their vote on June 14. Orrin Johnson also has that right, but he should have disclosed to the readers of the RGJ that he is biased, as he is a supporter and fundraiser for my opponent.
